Annoying Robocalls! How to Get Rid of them
Are robocalls flooding your cellphone? Well, it’s no wonder they’re up, and buy a lot.
In an article published in the New York Times, and the CEO of YouMail reports that robocalls skyrocketed from about 1.5 billion in December 2015 to just over 2 million in December 2016.
So how can you fight back from those annoying calls. First, simply don’t answer calls from numbers that you do not know. If you do happen to answer, hangup. don’t respond to the invitation to press a number to opt out. Why? That will just tell the caller that you have a working number and that you’re a target for more calls.
If the calls still keep coming in, list your phone number on the Do Not Call Registry. If that doesn’t work, report them.
Technology can help you in unwanted calls. I use AT&T call protect. Every call that comes through my cell phone goes through the app. If a call is suspected spam or a telemarketer it shows up on the phone. You’ll never get an unwanted call again.
This is the best part of all. There is a website called the Jolly Roger Telephone company. This website really puts the squeeze to robo callers. When you sign up, you can choose from different personalities to screw with the people on the other end of the phone. The robots answering the phone, string the callers on and then ask them to repeat their sales pitch. It’s hilarious.
A warning! The article goes on to say to watch what you say. Never say the word “yes” to a robo caller. Many use recordings that make it easier to make fraudulent charges. For example when a caller asks, “can you hear me?” Don’t say, “yes,” say “I can hear you.”
Bottom like, don’t answer calls from numbers you do not know.
